SUPERFISH

Because Vermont has such a strong tie to IBM, a significant number of Vermont residents have bought Lenovo computers.
Area artists and business users alike may use Lenovo products for work or pleasure. I do photo editing and engineering on a ThinkPad. And I'm writing this advisory on it today.
Lenovo installed a program called "Superfish" on some consumer notebooks shipped between September 2014 and now. Superfish is a nefarious and hidden advertising software that leaves laptops wide open to takeover by malicious adversaries. With Superfish on board, a bad guy can fake your laptop into trusting fake banks, fake health exchange sites, fake Facebook, fake Gmail and more.
Hundreds of thousands of customers are vulnerable to the attacks that could move your passwords and personal data directly to criminals.
This advisory applies only to Lenovo-branded consumer notebooks, tablets, and ultra books; Lenovo never installed that program on the "Think" series (ThinkPad, ThinkCenter, ThinkStation, ThinkServer) or the Lenovo Desktop and System x products.

[Lenovo reports that Superfish has completely disabled server side interactions (since January, 2015) on all Lenovo products so that the software product is no longer active, effectively disabling Superfish for all products in the market. Lenovo stopped loading the application in January and will not preload this software in the future.]
